Creating a Bully-Free Environment at School
Sponsor: Stakeholders Collaboration to Improve Student Health Activities:

This event will focus on bullying prevention, awareness, and tools for school personnel and community members to create bully-free environments for students. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Dorothy Espelage, an internationally recognized bullying expert and professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The event will also feature a panel with representatives from several local elementary schools and agencies that provide bullying prevention resources to schools.

Part-time Jobs for Low Income Parents

Good Morning Everyone:

Illinois Violence Prevention Authority, Englewood Neighborhood Recovery Initiative and Children's Home and Aid (Lead Agency) are partnering with Antioch Community Social Service to provide part-time jobs with training through their Parent Leadership in Action Network Program (PLAN) for low-income parents in the Englewood Community. Job training starts April 11, 2011. Part-time jobs start on completion of training and ends August 31, 2011.

PARENT LEADERSHIP in ACTION NETWORK (PLAN) SELECTION CRITERIA
* Strong verbal communication skills and an ease with discussing their own experiences in
raising adolescents;

* Commitment to strengthening the community and families;

* Positive attitude and spirit, and an ability to "think outside the box" in promoting prevention
strategies in their community;

* A flexible schedule and the ability to attend meetings and conduct community outreach; * An
interest in gaining peer leadership skills;

* Live in the Englewood Community; and

* Parent between the ages of 30 and 45.

SGLI Summer Internships

Now Accepting Applications for SGLI Summer Internships!

The Summer Government & Leadership Institute is a six-week summer internship program for junior and senior high school students. SGLI interns have the opportunity to work at an elected officials' office for 20 hours a week and attend a leadership workshop once a week. The program is focused on giving experienced Mikva students "hands on" experience in government, as well as fostering knowledge and discussion on important issues of the day. In previous summers, students have interned in offices on three levels of government: local, state wide and national.

During leadership workshops, students have heard from lobbyists, community organizers, reporters, professors. Applications are due by Friday, April 15th at 5pm. 2011 City Youth Council Applications For Chicago Youth Ages 15-23


Why should you apply for a City Youth Council?

What are the City Youth Councils? We are… Three separate councils that address issues facing Chicago youth. Councils will meet quarterly with Chicago officials (like the Commissioner of Public Health, the CEO of Chicago Public Schools and advisors to the Mayor) to advise and make recommendations on the top issues and concerns of Chicago youth. Councils will take action each year on issues facing Chicago youth. In the past, councils have rallied for more youth jobs, met with CPS officials on improving school lunches, and advocated for technology policies and digital abuse prevention. When does the program start and when will you work? Orientation is Monday, June 20th from 5-7 pm The City Youth Council SUMMER Program begins Monday, June 27, and ends Friday, August 19, 2011. Work about150 hours over the course of the summer: 3-5 days per week working with fellow council members researching and developing recommendations on your council’s issue (Education, Teen Health, and a city-wide Youth Commission Task-force) Research retreat during July.
